Lamb and Lion

A quintessentially English country pub set in a peaceful location within the heart of the stunning Somerset Levels. The pub offers a spacious bar, and a traditional but stylish eating and dining area. With open log fires, exposed beams and flagstone floors it is the perfect place to relax and enjoy. Outside there is a large garden and terrace offering the perfect setting for alfresco dining and drinking, along with magnificent views of the moors. Especially welcoming after a big country walk, dogs,(in the bar area) children and muddy wellies are all warmly received.

Barrington Boar

The  Barrington Boar is a traditional country pub in the centre of the picturesque and tranquil village of Barrington in South Somerset. The pub offers a freshly prepared menu, made from locally sourced and seasonal ingredients, along with a wonderful selection of real ales, ciders and lagers. The wine list is carefully selected to be paired with the food as well as being great to enjoy on its own. Tea and fresh barista coffee throughout the day.

Today's Menu Food Studies

Todays Menu // Food Studies is a Bistro/Restaurant situated in a Grade II listed building the center of Ilminster, overlooking the Market Square and the old fountain.

They offer a daily changing lunch menu (Priced around £6.00) and an A La Carte Evening Menu (Priced around £30-35pp).

Their style of food is varied, focusing mostly on the highest quality ingredients and simple presentation. They always strive to have a Vegan option, a gluten free option, a fish option and a meat option.

The Firehouse, Curry Rivel

The Firehouse is a great pub/restaurant in the nearby village of Curry Rivel. Great atmosphere and food, but do book to be sure of getting a table.

A vegetarian restaurant in the unusual setting of an old mill between Ilminster and Horton. Great food, freshly cooked in front of you. Restaurant located upstairs. Excellent food, well worth a try. Check opening times/days. 

Brown and Forrest Smokery, Restaurant and Shop

A small family run smokery, started 37 years ago here in Somerset, producing the finest smoked eel and salmon as well as a whole range of delicious smoked foods including smoked chicken, duck, lamb and trout.  The restaurant menu is mainly made up of fresh offerings straight out the smokers – served simply with salad, new potatoes, bread & roasted veg. Also homemade quiches, terrines, pies and much more depending on the seasons & time of year.

Cosy and quirky little restaurant situated in Ilminster's East Street, opposite the Meeting House. Gets great reviews for both savoury dishes and its amazing cake. 

Living Pretty

Living Pretty is in the village of Curry Rivel and has an extensive cafe menu. Great food throughout the day. Closed in the evening. You'll also find a beautiful range of country lifestyle interiors to make your house and garden look effortlessly welcoming all year round.

Lower Woodlands Glamping is perfectly situated for access to many of the Somerset and Devon AONBs. These include the Quantock Hills, the Blackdown Hills, and Exmoor National Park.

Ilminster - Local Market Town

While you're staying at Lower Woodlands it is well worth driving the 4 miles into our local market town

of Ilminster. Here you'll find a lovely selection of small shops and cafes, as well as other essentials such as the Post Office and banks. A must do is a visit to the beautiful Minster church. A small market takes place every Thursday morning.

A masterpiece of Elizabethan Renaissance architecture and design. With its towering walls of glass, glow of ham stone and surrounding garden, it is a place of beauty and wonder.

Badbury Flower Company

Just a short walk down the lane from Lower Woodlands, you'll find our local flower farm. Here you'll find a dedicated cutting garden of traditional British cottage garden flowers - all scented and seasonal.  The flowers are sold at local produce markets as well as being available for weddings, events and special occasion bouquets. Enjoy browsing around the flower beds, and perhaps make a beautiful, fragrant hand-tied posy to take away with you.

Blackdown Shepherd Huts

Spend a insightful hour visiting the workshop of Blackdown Shepherd Huts.  See where the huts are made and look around some of the many different, individual huts that they design and build.

Must be booked in advance. Available Monday to Friday only.

An atmospheric fragment of old Somerset: an empty Tudor manor house, beautifully restored in the 1920s, with farm buildings, abundant flowers and orchards.

Lyme Regis

Lyme Regis boasts breathtaking scenery and a special mystique, making it a sparkling resort for all seasons. Its historic Cobb and harbour are iconic features, set against moody blue cliffs yielding fossilised evidence of life on earth millions of years ago.

If you want to take the slow road - borrow a bike and spend the day cycling through charming villages or along the River Parrett from Langport. You'll really get to see the countryside, breathe lots of fresh country air and experience a variety of good watering-holes along the way. Then return to Lower Woodlands for an evening around the firepit, pop a cork or two while watching the swallows go to roost, and as darkness falls, the owls hooting. Then turn-in for a deep, refreshing sleep.

For a unique experience, why not take a short walk into the village of Isle Abbotts and visit our very own miniature steam railway.  The engines will take you from the platform for a short ride along a landscaped route through part of the village. The railway is privately owned and has been built and maintained by Martin and Barbara over many years. They will be delighted to tell you about it's evolution - and what a great photo opportunity too!

Visits are subject to availability and advance booking is essential. A small donation towards the Isle Abbotts church fund would be greatly appreciated.

At the heart of Isle Abbotts lies the Parish Church of St Mary the Virgin, dating back to the 13th Century with a magnificent tower added around 1510. Major restoration work took place in 2006 and the tower is now restored to its former glory. Well worth a visit.

Get an amazing insight into the workmanship, commitment to tradition, care and vision that goes into the creation of a Blackdown Shepherd Hut. Visit the workshop and view just a few of the luxurious huts handcrafted by Will and his team.

Take a 5 minute stroll along Woodlands lane and you'll find Badbury Flower Company. A small flower farm growing beautiful cottage garden flowers for weddings, markets and everyday. Pop along and treat yourself to a lovely hand-tied posy to take home.
